Dec 04, 2019 Re: Sheet Metal Bending Brake - 8 ga/1/8 capacity? Depending on what angle you are trying to achieve, go for something like 5052, or 6061 O (annealed) aluminum. Also for tight bends go with the grain if possible. Anything with a heat treat rating, like 6061 T6, will tear or break when you bend it.

: Van MarkDec 03, 2012 If you have access to an industrial door with atleast three hinges you can bend sheet metal in a door jamb as well. 1/8 X 30 AL. probably wouldnt hurt a heavy duty door. A house hold standard door you may break the jamb. You wont get a full 90deg bend out of a door jamb but you can get it close enough to dolly the rest of the way. # 7

Dec 18, 2012 Take it to a shop! I bought some 1/8 inch steel dimand plate some years ago to put on my trailer to replace the wood decking. I was able to have them cut it into strips 15 inches wide by 8 ft and then add a 1 inch 90 deg. bend along one edge. The bend was upward so it stuck up when placed on the trailer frame.

Aug 22, 2016 Having said that a typical sharp 90* bend on a piece of 1/8 aluminum sheet should be a minimum 1/8 inside radius, use either 3003 or 5052 ideally the bend line should go across the grain. This will give you a nice bend. If you tell me exactly what you are trying to do I can give you advice.
