Oct 31, 2003 Re: How to bend aluminum tubing? Depends on the size and thickness of the tubing and the radius you want. For a 6 inch or more radius on 1/2 or 3/4 tube a conduit bender will work fine. for small radius like 3 inch you will need a hydrulic bender to do a nice job. G.

I have an Imperial Eastman tubing bender that does an excelent job so long as the material is forgiving. 6061 does not like to bend, with or without heat. Anything over a 45 degree bend would start to collapse and fracture.

I have a JD2 model 3 bender from trick tools and i want to use it to bend 1.75 aluminum tubing with a wall thickness of .080 I have been told by a few people that bending 6061 is tricky.
